Butler Borough (07405) is located in Morris County, NJ. The community is nestled in the foothills of the Ramapo Mountains and is located 38 miles northwest of New York City. The community has a total area of 2.1 square miles and has approximately 2,930 housing units. The Borough was named after Richard Butler, who made vast improvements to the town in the late 1800s, with his Hard Rubber Company which in turn led to the extensive growth of the town and surrounding area. Route 23 runs through the community and Interstate 287 is approximately 1.5 miles south of the town.

Commute

Butler Borough is easily accessible to NJ Route 23 and Interstate 287. New Jersey Transit provides bus service from Butler to NY Port Authority Bus Terminal in Midtown Manhattan NYC. During rush hour, the bus ride takes about 65 minutes. The train station in Lincoln Park is located to the east.

Schools

The Butler Public School System serves students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. Aaron Decker School serves K-4th grade and Richard Butler School serves grades 5-8. Butler High School serves students 9-12.

Recreation

Butler residents can hike and fish at the Kakeout Reservoir. Butler offers a variety of winter, summer and fall activities for its residents and there is a community lake located at Stony Brook Park.
