Mountain Lakes Borough (07046) is located in Morris County NJ - about 35 miles west of NYC. The community has a total area of 3.1 square miles and has approximately 1,360 housing units. The community is known for its beauty with quiet lakes, rolling hills, and neighborhood streets that are shrouded by tall, mature trees. Herbert Hapgood, a developer, laid the foundations of this planned community in the 1920s building beautiful Arts and Crafts style homes, many of which still exist today. These homes are often called Hapgoods. The man-made lakes in the community are: Birchwood Lake, Crystal Lake, Mountain Lake, Sunset Lake, Wildwood Lake, and Cove Lake. Residents enjoy swimming, sailing, ice skating, and more. The community is also known for its excellent school system and great location. The train and bus to NYC are both available inside the community.

Commute

Mountain Lakes has easy access to Interstate 80 and 287. The community has a train station on the NJ Transit Montclair-Boonton Line which offers direct service to Hoboken Terminal. Passengers can transfer to another train or bus before Hoboken for a Midtown Manhattan commute. At Hoboken Terminal, passengers can switch to the PATH to reach NYC. Lakeland Bus provides service from Mountain Lakes to NY Port Authority in Midtown. During rush hour, the bus ride takes about 70 minutes.

Schools

The Mountain Lakes School District serves public school students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Schools in the district are Wildwood School for grades K-5, Briarcliff School for grades 6-8, and the High School for grades 9-12. Students from the neighboring town of Boonton Township also attend the High School.

Shopping

There is an amazing amount of nearby shopping for residents. From big chain stores in Parsippany and East Hanover, to small shops and boutiques in Boonton and Morristown, everything you need is just a short drive away. The Rockaway Townsquare Mall is about 15 minutes away in Rockaway Township. The Willowbrook Mall is about 20 minutes away in Wayne.
